An initiative promoted by the City Council that has focused on the conservation and maintenance of the monument.Last August, the conservation and maintenance intervention of the Valme monument, located in Plaza Menéndez y Pelayo, was concluded.In this action, a cleaning of the same has been carried out, applying the necessary operations that benefit its conservation and delay the appearance of new stains of biotic and environmental origin, through cleaning, microbiocidal treatment and protective treatment of the surface.In short, it has been tried to enhance the aesthetic values, given the importance and relevance of this historical and artistic asset for the city of Dos Hermanas.Specifically, a superficial cleaning has been carried out, loose residues, fertile soil in the joints, higher plants, have been removed by using brushes and a vacuum cleaner;a mechanical cleaning, removing embedded dirt, mostly biogenic black crusts, generated by environmental dirt and lichenization and cleaning of the joints of the plates that present grouting material in poor condition, loose or currently with lack of functionality, by means of the use of brushes, soft metal brushes, compressor, surgical instruments.In addition, a wet and chemical cleaning has been carried out to eliminate residual carbonation stains and runoff products, impregnated in the limestone and marble material, through the use of specific neutral solutions and pads.In addition, a biocide treatment has been applied, the open joints have been rescued (after thorough cleaning), screws have been placed in the plate facing east, antioxidant protection has been applied to the screws and a general waterproofing has been carried out.Finally, a modification has been made to the parterre that delimits the central staircase of the monument, to prevent stains from appearing in the future caused by minerals from the previously existing earth.This intervention in the Valme monument, promoted by the Dos Hermanas City Council, has been carried out by the Nazarene company Crest Arte, specialized in conservation, maintenance and restoration interventions.This company has carried out important interventions such as those of the Dome of the Main Sacristy of the Cathedral of Seville, the Roman Theater of Malaga, the Baths of María de Patilla and historical fountains of the Real Alcázar of Seville, the dolmens of Menga and Soto or the Staircase of the Captaincy General in the Plaza de España in Seville.This Valme monument, whose execution dates back to 1970, was commissioned from the Vicente Coloma Llorens company, the sculpture of the Virgin being the work of Andrés Álvarez Cobos.The design of the was the work of the municipal quantity surveyor Pablo Gómez Gómez.In it, the Virgin appears seated on a jamuga with the Child seated on her left leg, both crowned by her.The Virgin is represented with the mantle, the royal shields and the crowns that the Dos Hermanas Town Council had given her in 1966.
