French OEM Profroid, part of Carrier Commercial Refrigeration, has launched the MiniCO2OL Outdoor, a CO2 (R744) condensing unit with both medium-temperature (MT) and low-temperature (LT) cooling for outdoor installation.

The MiniCO2OL Outdoor CO2 condensing unit is designed for large convenience stores and small to medium supermarkets, and it has MT capacities from 50 – 160kW (14.2 – 45.5TR) and LT capacities from 5 – 67kW (1.4 – 19TR), at 36°C (96.8°F) ambient temperature.

The MiniCO₂OL is part of the Carrier CO₂OLtec product range. This range demonstrates “average energy savings of approximately 10% compared with traditional HFC refrigeration systems in mild to cold climates, resulting in attractive life-cycle costs and low return on investment periods,” Carrier stated on its product website.

Key features include weatherproof and sound-insulated housing with attached and fully connected wired gas cooler. The gas cooler is side-mounted with two to four EC fans. However, the units are also available without a gas cooler for small outdoor spaces, according to Profroid’s product website. Optional features include heat recovery.

The MiniCO2OL Outdoor CO2 condensing unit is available in both single and dual temperature models, with 1 – 3 MT semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors and 0 – 2 LT compressors. The unit has an integrated controller and variable-speed drive for one MT compressor as standard and an optional variable-speed drive for one LT compressor.

The unit has a wide capacity control from 30 – 70Hz, and 30bar (435.1psi) LT suction pressure and 45bar (652.7psi) MT suction pressure. End users also have the option to go for higher pressure up to 80bar (1.160.3psi) for both MT and LT suction. The CO2 gas cooler discharge has a 120bar (1,740.5psi) pressure.

The Carrier CO₂OLtec product range demonstrates “average energy savings of approximately 10% compared with traditional HFC refrigeration systems in mild to cold climates.”
